|This course is structured as a series of four related modules of practical assignments and personal research and is taught by distance learning. Each module is designed to help you focus on the key areas associated with the language of embroidery today.
The course is designed to guide you through a series of structured assignments focused on visual research and design, experimental approaches to colour and mixed media methods, practical skills using hand and machine embroidery and ways of resolving personal projects.
|On completion of the work for each module, you will be sent a written appraisal and feedback on your collection. This will help you to evaluate your own work, guide you in developing your practical and academic skills and will provide a structured framework enabling you to build a cohesive collection of practical work for final assessment.
The course is structured as 4 related modules which should be purchased individually, and which take on average 3 months to complete.
Each module costs £156.00 (inc. VAT).
|The Language of Embroidery - Course modules:|
|1||The Language of Contrasts||Core unit focusing on a range of approaches to visual research and design, colour study and experimental mixed media methods. Creating a portfolio of visual studies.|
|2||The Language of Texture||An exploration of surface textures, and natural forms researched from the core theme. Practical hand and machine embroidery methods. A study of raised and padded textile methods. Building a collection of samples and one resolved item of embroidery.|
|3||The Language of History - Then and Now||Exploring both contemporary and historical approaches to the core theme. Building a collection focused on aspects of traditional embroidery techniques. A study of a related series of stitch structures including linear and decorative stitches and basic appliqué methods.|
|4||The Language of Colour||An exploration of colour developing aspects of the theme studied in the core module. Painting with stitches. Working with overlays and bonding methods. The development of an item of embroidery using innovative techniques.|
